Large Metal-Clad Wood Windows – Toronto
3307
For our Toronto-based architect client, we installed large wood metal-clad windows and wood double french doors. She wanted to make the living space in the back of their house very open and bright. Large glass wood windows weighing up to 1200 lbs. were installed in order to accomplish this. To lift these windows we installed a winch to the top of their unfinished roof which allowed us to softly place windows into place with minimal effort.
Unfortunately, the space between the houses in this neighborhood did not allow us to utilize equipment to move the windows. Seven guys and a few specialized trolleys were needed to properly transport the windows. The windows were aluminum cladded in a colour called Graphite, the interior was left natural with a clear stain.
With this much glass you still want to maintain heating and cooling performance which was done with argon filled double pane glass and three layers of Low-E coating which filters out the harmful UV light keeping air conditioning costs low. We also installed Blueskin weather barrier along the sills and jambs of the opening.
